Elder Abuse: Ageing in the Irish Health System

Faced with the 'silver tsunami' and over 22'000 people living in nursing homes; elder abuse has never been a more timely or troubling topic.

The HSE defines elder abuse as “a single or repeated act, or lack of appropriate action, occurring within any relationship where there is an expectation of trust which causes harm or distress to an older person, or violates their human and civil rights”.

As future health professionals it will be our duty to protect our patients from abuse.

AMSI & UCC Alzheimer's Society are proud to present a talk on how what dying today looks like in Ireland, the vulnerability of a person living with dementia and how to identify & support a victim of elder abuse.

With guest speakers:
Dr. Seamus O' Mahony, Author of the 'The Way We Die Now'
Vanessa Bradbury, Alzheimer's Ireland
Donal Hurley, HSE Vulnerable Adults Safeguarding Team
