“Hello everyone! During 2019 summer I was given the opportunity to go to the August GA in Taiwan where I attended the SCOME sessions. At first I was nervous, I had never been to an event of this calibre, I had never met any of the Irish delegation in person, and I barely knew how the IFMSA operates. But fears aside, the only regret I have is not being involved sooner. seeing the hundreds of students from all over the world, the events they run, the challenges they face, the successes they created, is really rather inspiring. The GA had everything from the fun social events like culture shows, international food and drink night, to the more serious such as model WHO, Rex crossley awards, and international plenaries (you feel so important holding up an mini Irish flag to vote for things). If you have the slightest thought of going, apply, you’ve nothing to lose! 😊”

I attended the AM2019 in Taiwan in my role as the AMSI National Officer for Exchanges - Outgoing. My main duties at the assembly were to (1) advertise and promote AMSI exchanges, (2) network with other countries for future exchange opportunities, (3) sign contracts for the upcoming exchange season, and (4) learn about ways to improve aspects of our current exchanges. To assist in the latter, I attended the Standing Committee on Professional Exchanges (SCOPE) sessions in Taiwan. In these, I learned about how to improve upon the organizational, academic and social aspects of our exchanges; both from the session facilitators and from fellow delegates. It was incredibly valuable to hear about the first-hand experience of other NMOs and the solutions that they find to the challenges that exchanges present. Attending a General Assembly is an incredible experience. It is an amazing opportunity to learn from your peers, share some of your own innovative solutions, and be immersed in the vibe and energy of thousands of passionate medical students who are trying to build and better world, and have fun while doing it. The culture, food, friendships and learning is something that you will never forget!

Hello, my name is Minhan! I was one of the General delegates from Ireland who attended August Meeting 2019 in Taiwan. I attended the National Members Organization’ sessions. NMOs sessions were really useful to someone like me who have no experience on the EB. As I serve AMSI TCD locally, I was able to understand the fundamentals of managing an NMO. I learned about fundraising, defining the vision, mission and objections of an organization. The most fruitful experience was definitely meeting other delegates from other countries! I was really inspired by the exchange of ideas from more established NMOs since AMSI is rather young. I believe Annual Meetings can benefit anyone who serves at either a local and national level, you will be amazed by what you can get out of the experience! Besides learning from the sessions that you attend, a golden opportunity is provided to cultivate cultural competency about your host country. I am most glad with the memories I built with the delegates from Ireland. 😊❤

I have had the amazing opportunity to attend 2 GAs during my time with AMSI and they have honestly been one of the best experiences I have had in my entirety of medicine! They are such a unique chance to meet fantastic and inspiring medical students from all over the year who not only share in your passion for improving public global health but are also some of the most balanced, fun and energetic people you will meet! If you can, I would 100% recommend going, you will not regret it and you will be sure to come back with the same positive experiences! 🥰😆
